Twenty-one

Chris turns twenty-one today. I won't be seeing him until tonight, when Our Sainted Mother and I will go over to eat where he's working.

Possibly not the birthday celebration he's been hoping for, but there you have it. I hope he's sleeping in today.

I meant to go out last night with Cat, Junior and Adam to have dinner and Extraordinary Desserts, but alas...spending the day doing laundry for OSM, plus shopping and bill paying left me less-than-social by the time evening rolled around.

What is so draining to me is how repetitive the day is. I'm not sure how often we discussed having dinner where we could see Chris, or what day Cyd starts school or what she wanted to buy at the grocery store. It's difficult to treat each duplicate conversation as the first time you've had it.

We spent the time in between our tasks putting together jigsaw puzzles. We finished one Saturday morning and started a new on Saturday afternoon. OSM has always done puzzles and I enjoy them as well. I can't do them at my place as puzzle pieces = cat toys. Before I had cats, I used to do puzzles with the boys.

Someday, Chris will have a little cherub turn twenty-one and I hope Chris will still hang out with his feeble-minded mother. He says he will.

The Woman in Me

Earlier this week, the woman in me bought a new PS2. Yesterday, she followed up with a trip to Kiev.

WTH!?

I'm going for a number reasons: I've never been there before; it has awesome architecture; it gets me 14,400 miles; and it was relatively inexpensive. Relative to say, Tokyo or Rome in the same time frame.

The trip won't be very long, only three days on the ground, but I want to do something completely different. Traveling alone, I find, often meets that need for me. In a way, it's easier than traveling with some one as I like to plan in advance and be prepared for all sorts of events. When you're with someone else, you need to take their abilities and interests in mind.

It may not be an easy trip (like, I don't speak any Ukranian or Russian), but it will be interesting. And that's what life should be: interesting!

Non parlo Italiano...

...except in my car. :(

I am nearing the end of CD number 2, currently mumbling prepositions. Per, da, di...it's so musical, like a song! Per, da, di! Per, di, da! Life goes on...la!

One thing I'm somewhat struggling with is making my tongue curl up naturally around the R sound. It's like purring...I know how it works, but sometimes it doesn't come out that way. My current favorite word to say is scrivere. Mmm...scrivere, baby. That's followed closely by comprendere. But for the life of me, parlare sounds as though my mouth is full of marbles, and not in a good way.

Mr. Falconeer, my Italian friend, blogs in Italian. I struggled in vain to get through a post, then had to let Google translator butcher the hell out of it. On the bright side, I have some idea what he's up to. On the other hand, even Google was stumped by his casual, colloquial style.

Which is a good thing, when you think on it. After all, none of us speak English like a textbook, so reading Italian as someone who speaks Italian would write it should be a good exercise for my brain.

Per, da, di!
